Yesterday France declared it would help Mali to re-take the north from the insurgents. Last night they’ve started bombardments on Islamist positions with Mirage jets and supported Malian troops in an attack on the recently lost town of Konna, which they’ve apparently successfully freed from it’s occupiers.
The UK has said it supports France’s action.
Today ECOWAS declared it would start sending troops on Monday. Until recently this didn’t seem possible before September, but now there’s an urge to join the fray.
After 9 months the international community got the insight that waiting with an intervention any longer would make the future of Mali uncertain and an extremist state in Africa a real possible threat.
